You smashed it! Records tumble at TRC13
A gorgeous late summer evening at Blackbushe Airport where hundreds of eager participants gathered to run, walk, cycle, scoot or even hula-hoop around the runway at this year's Twilight Runway Challenge!
This, the thirteenth such event since it began at Farnborough in 2010, was a remarkable occasion. In 2022, just over 800 Challengers took part; this year saw just over 900 take a 3, 5 or 10k circuit, pushing themselves to raise almost £45,000 for 50 charity partners - the good causes for which this event is all about. In all, many more people were also present at TRC13, there to cheer, support and encourage the Challengers to even greater efforts to reach the finish line.
A breathless Anthea Rastall, CMPP's event organiser, was clearly delighted with the success of Twilight: 'It's fantastic to see so many people here - children, even babies, pushchairs, wheelchairs, the elderly - all taking part to do something great for others.
Working with Chris (Gazzard) and Rebecca (Cornthwaite) at Blackbushe has been incredible: they could not be more supportive in helping make Twilight the brilliant event it now is.
And our sponsors have been so generous - without their interest and enthusiasm behind the scenes, none of this could have happened. Hard work - but so worth it!'
CMPP Chair, Paul Edwards, took up this theme as he completed 10 hard kilometres of tarmac:
‘It's great to see so many people from the community here today.
So many taking part, spectators but also here are dozens of volunteers - those marshaling the course, handing out water and medals, Roy Allaway our MC, the DJ's Josh and Luke from JL Entertainment, first aiders - all helping with every aspect of this spectacular event.
It's really heartening to see how the Twilight Runway Challenge has become a well-known fixture in the community. Some, like Alex Crawford (former Mayor of Rushmoor Borough Council, now a Hampshire County Councillor), come back year after year, committed to raising funds for their favoured charities. Brilliant!'
Even Beryl, the CMPP volunteering van, joined the action for her inaugural challenge, alongside Tracy Jarvis, founder patron of CMPP and whose brainchild the Twilight Runway Challenge is.
