DRAG RACING, PERFORMANCE CAR SHOTS ETC

Our disused runways are open to the public and dog walkers etc, and so are not available for drag racing, vehicle testing, learner driving, or advanced vehicle handling. Our main runway is in constant use by aircraft, and we do not normally consider closing it for filming. We very infrequently entertain requests, but usually only major motion pictures have the kind of budget to compensate us for closing the runway.

We are aware that some online forums suggest that a “Carwow” film at Blackbushe, this is not the case, they use another location. Please do not contact us with requests about running your vehicles on our runways.

CASE STUDIES

Don't ask us, let our previous work speak for itself. Blackbushe Airport has played host to a number of filming activities, from well known television adverts to major feature films.

RUSH (FEATURE FILM) - 2013

An entire pit lane and start/finish straight was constructed on a disused runway for filming of the story of Niki Lauda v James Hunt and their 1976 Formula 1 championship battle.

This shoot took place over many months and required planning permission and Natural England consent to partition off the disused runways, normally open to the public for recreation.

CRIMINAL (FEATURE FILM) - 2016

Aerial stunts and a car crash were filmed at Blackbushe for this blockbuster movie, released in 2016.

This shoot required planning permission and Natural England consent to partition off the disused runways, normally open to the public for recreation. We also had to re-licence the disused runway with the CAA.

hannah season 2 (amazon prime) - 2021

This series was shooting locally and returned to us several times to shoot various scenes:

  • Cast deboarding a military aircraft and boarding a bus

  • A truck stop scene filmed in our car park

  • An arrival of one of the characters on a business jet to our terminal

These shoots were day shoots, and involved static vehicles which were simply to put together and execute and did not require special permissions, nor did they interfere with normal airport operations.

JAGUAR - #GOODTOBEBAD (ADVERT) - 2014

Have you ever noticed how in Hollywood movies, all the villains are played by Brits?  A runway, a helicopter, a private jet, and a supercar made for some exciting filming at Blackbushe Airport.

This shoot was conducted during evenings so as not to interfere with normal airport operations.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (feature film) - 2018

This smaller shoot utilised our apron to double for an american airfield. We utilised some of our based ‘N’ registered aircraft to complete the look.

This required the aerodrome to shut for several days - something that needs lots of notice to plan and execute.

untitled movie - q4 2023 release

This action movie needed to achieve a scene of an abandoned airstrip. Over a period of weeks they utilised our disused runways, constructing a control tower, and dressing the runway to achieve their look.

They brought in an aircraft, which landed on the main runway and was then towed onto the disused runways at a slow speed. Throughout the set build the public had access to the production area, and marshalls were used on the shooting days to maintain access for the public when the cameras weren’t rolling.

Another arm of the disused runway was used for parking and unit base.
